Delicious winter buckwheat breakfast

This weekend I was again with my girlfriend in Germany.

The girlfriend of the delicious, but uber-healthy breakfasts.

This Sunday we made this delicious winter breakfast together.

She had made a spice mix in advance of:

  • 2 tbsp ginger powder
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground cardamom.

You can simply keep this in a well-sealed and clean glass jar.

We had for 2 persons:

  • 200 gr buckwheat boiled in a layer of water for five minutes.
  • The buckwheat should be just under water.
  • We added the spice mix to taste.
  • She normally does not add salt. I missed that a bit, it was a bit lackluster.
  • When I make my own oatmeal breakfast this way, I put a little bit of salt in it. So that's up to your taste.
  • When it was ready we took it off the heat and stirred the buckwheat for a while. We then let it cool down.
  • We shieldeda sweet firm apple and cut them into slices that are not too thin.
  • We also sprinkle it a bit with the spice mix.
  • We dida little sunflower oil in a frying pan and fry the apple slices alternately.
  • We baked the apple until it started to soften a little.
  • We put the buckwheat in a bowl and divided the apple slices over it.
  • We then did eacha handful of blueberries in our bowl.
  • Last we did a small tablespoon of flaxseed oil for our shot of healthy fats.

I had never made a buckwheat breakfast myself. I also got the wrong one. She wanted buckwheat grains and I had bought the ground version which is very similar to oatmeal. The grains have a tastier bite, she thought, and that's right.

I once made a salad with buckwheat grains, so I should have known. I will therefore soon also make breakfast with the grains. You cook the grains between five and eight minutes.

Do you think: well if it looks so much like oatmeal, then I make it with oatmeal. That is not entirely true.
